Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival’s (BIFAN) festival director, SHIN Chul, will be giving a presentation at the Festival Hubs conference at the 75th Cannes Film Festival’s Marché du Film. He will be giving a presentation titled “The New Era of Festivals: Expanding Beyond Hybrid” in front of filmmakers and industry professionals on May 19 at 11:30 a.m. (local time).

Festival Hubs was launched by the Marché du Film last year to create new synergies between film festivals from around the world. Participants of the conference have conversations about core issues faced by film festivals and the film industry, and each film festival gives presentations on their direction and main programs. Asia’s largest genre film festival, BIFAN, plans to share the challenges the festival has taken on over the last two years because of the pandemic, as well as establish networks and use the opportunity as a jumping-off point for collaboration.

At the conference, Festival Director SHIN Chul will be sharing the worries BIFAN faced and the insights it gained while holding the festival during the COVID-19 pandemic. He will be speaking about how the pandemic changed content viewing mediums, language of cinema, and film festivals. He will also be discussing how BIFAN came to actively introduce VR and XR after reestablishing the festival’s mission. Lastly, he will introduce the Scary Tales Campus, a project that was launched to discover origin stories and creators.
